Howard University Community Service Day Remembering 9/11
Access Housing Inc. D.C. was honored and excited to welcome Howard University students for a Community Service Day honoring 911 with our Veteran community at Access Housing inc. D.C. This day represents much more than volunteering; it is an opportunity for our future leaders who visited Access Housing Inc. to connect with the stories, sacrifices, and lived experiences of America's Veterans, including those who have faced the unimaginable challenge of homelessness on the streets of our Nation's Capital.
As students serve meals, assist with facility projects, and engage directly with our Veterans, we hope they leave with a deeper understanding that homelessness does not define a Veteran's service, value, or potential.
Behind each and every story is a man or woman who answered the call to serve our nation and deserves the opportunity to live like we do....with dignity, stability, and hope. The future leaders at Howard University will carry these experiences with them as they pursue careers in government, business, healthcare, education, law, public service, and beyond. We at Access Housing Inc. D.C. believe this experience will inspire them to become lifelong advocates, champions, and voices for Veterans and vulnerable communities.
At Access Housing Inc. D.C., we know that when young leaders understand the challenges facing our homeless Veterans, they become part of the solution. They become leaders who will ask the difficult questions, build stronger communities, create opportunities, and ensure that those who served our nation are never forgotten. We are grateful to Howard University and its Office of Military and Veterans Services Department for investing in service, leadership, and community. We are building a bridge between generations and inspiring a new generation of advocates who will carry forward the promise that every Veteran deserves housing, respect, dignity, and a place to call home.
Today, the students served, Tomorrow they will lead and throughout their careers, we hope they will continue to champion those who once served. We live free because of the brave Veterans that carried the banner of our American flag!
